DEVOTIONAL READING

Day 5 of Morning Watch 2026 • Year of Faith in Action
January 5 • God Can Use Your Challenges and Perceived Weaknesses (Moses’ Story)

🔑 Key Text 🔑

“Moses said to the Lord, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.’” Exodus 4:10 (NIV)

~ Like a rough stone shaped into a cornerstone—what you see as a flaw, God can use as a feature to build His work! ~

📖 3 Related Scripture References

  1. Exodus 4:11-12 – “The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’”
  2. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’”
  3. Judges 6:15 – “But Gideon said to him, ‘Pardon me, my lord, but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.’”

💬 Quotation from Ellen G. White

“Moses felt that he was deficient in speech; but God does not choose the strong, the eloquent, the self-reliant, to carry forward His work. He chooses the weak and lowly, whom He can teach and train for His service. When men are conscious of their own weakness and insufficiency, they will look to God for strength, and thus He can reveal His power working through human instrumentalities.” — Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 247

🤲 Practical Implications for Faith in Action

(For H4J Homes for Jesus Families and DCN300 Community)

  1. Name Your “Weakness”: Take time to honestly identify what you see as a challenge or limitation—whether it’s shyness, a physical constraint, lack of experience, or difficulty communicating. Bring it to God in prayer, just as Moses did.
  2. Look for God’s Work in It: Reflect on how God might already be using this part of your life to connect with others or depend more fully on Him. For example, a quiet nature could help you listen deeply to those in need, or a past struggle might equip you to encourage others facing similar trials.
  3. Step Out in Faith: Offer your “imperfect” self to serve in your home, H4J community, or DCN300 network. Whether it’s leading a small group discussion (even if you feel you’re not a great speaker) or helping organize a project (even if you’re not highly organized), trust that God will supply what you lack.
