DAY 14: Confidence in Obedience
Theme: Trusting Obedience
Scripture: Philemon 1:20-21 (NIV) – “I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.”
Reflection:
In these verses, Paul expresses his confidence in Philemon’s obedience, trusting that Philemon will not only fulfill his request but even exceed it. This confidence is rooted in their shared faith and Philemon’s proven character. It highlights the joy and mutual encouragement that come from obedience to God’s call. When we obey God, we not only bless others but also refresh the hearts of those who have invested in our spiritual growth.
Additional Scripture:
- John 14:21 (NIV): “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
- Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
- 1 John 2:5 (NIV): “But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him”
Practical Application for H4J Community:
- Reflect on Past Obedience: Take time to reflect on instances where obedience to God led to unexpected blessings and joy. Share these testimonies within the H4J community to encourage one another.
- Identify Areas of Hesitation: Honestly assess any areas in your life where you may be hesitant to fully obey God. Bring these hesitations before God in prayer, asking for guidance and strength.
- Step Out in Faith: Choose one specific area where you sense God is calling you to obedience and take a step of faith in that direction. Trust that God will provide the necessary resources and guidance along the way.
- Encourage Accountability: Partner with a fellow member of the H4J community to provide accountability and support in your commitment to obedience. Regularly check in with one another to share progress and challenges.
- Celebrate Obedience: As you experience the blessings and joy that come from obedience, take time to celebrate God’s faithfulness and share your experiences with the wider H4J community.
This devotional reading encourages us to embrace confidence in our obedience to God, trusting that it brings joy and blessing. By reflecting on past experiences, identifying areas of hesitation, stepping out in faith, encouraging accountability, and celebrating obedience, we can cultivate a deeper relationship with God and experience the fullness of His promises. It’s about trusting that God knows best and following His lead with unwavering faith!
