Devotional Reading
DAY 46: Confident of Your Obedience: Expressing Faith in Others and Their Commitment to God’s Will
Theme: Faith-Filled Expectation
Scripture: Philemon 1:21 (NIV) – “Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.”
Reflection:
Paul’s confidence in Philemon’s obedience highlights the power of expressing faith in others and their commitment to God’s will. This challenges us to cultivate a spirit of trust and encouragement within our relationships, believing in the potential for others to exceed expectations in their service to God. As we continue our 47-day journey, let’s reflect on how we can communicate our faith in others within the H4J and DCN300 communities, inspiring them to greater obedience and service. Paul’s affirmation motivates us to: “Express your faith in others, believing that they will not only be obedient but will also exceed expectations in their service to God!”
Additional Scripture:
- 2 Thessalonians 3:4 (NIV): “We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.”
- Philippians 1:6 (NIV): “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
- Hebrews 6:9 (NIV): “Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things concerning you—things that accompany salvation.”
Connecting with the 28 Fundamental Beliefs:
Our focus on “Confident of Your Obedience” aligns with several of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs. Specifically:
- Belief 11: Growing in Christ – Expressing faith in others encourages their spiritual growth and obedience.
- Belief 12: The Church – A supportive community fosters an environment where members are encouraged to live obediently.
Practical Application for H4J Community:
- Verbalize Your Belief: Tell others that you believe in them and in their ability to serve God.
Story: Sister Maria told a young woman in her church that she believed she had a gift for teaching and encouraged her to lead a Bible study.
- Offer Encouragement: Provide encouragement and support to those who are striving to live obediently.
Story: Brother David sent a note of encouragement to a friend who was struggling to overcome a bad habit.
- Delegate Responsibility: Give others opportunities to serve and to use their gifts and talents. Show them that you trust them to handle responsibility.
Story: Homes for Jesus delegated responsibility to various members of the church, empowering them to lead different ministries.
- Celebrate Successes: Celebrate the successes of those who are living obediently. Acknowledge their efforts and express your appreciation.
Story: Sister Emily organized a celebration to honor the volunteers who had made a significant contribution to the church’s outreach program.
- Pray for Their Growth: Pray for the spiritual growth of others. Ask God to strengthen them, to guide them, and to help them to live obediently.
Story: Brother John made it a practice to pray daily for the members of his church, asking God to help them to grow in their faith.
This devotional reading encourages us to express faith in others and their commitment to God’s will. By verbalizing our belief, offering encouragement, delegating responsibility, celebrating successes, and praying for their growth, we can inspire others to greater obedience and service. Let’s commit to faith-filled expectation, following Paul’s example, and strengthening the H4J and DCN300 communities!
