DAY 21: With Your Spirit: Guided and Empowered by the Holy Spirit
Theme: Inviting the Holy Spirit
Scripture: Philemon 1:25 (NIV) – “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.”
Reflection:
In Philemon 1:25, Paul’s closing blessing—”The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit”—invites us to consider the vital role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God within us, guiding, comforting, and empowering us in every aspect of our lives. Praying for the Holy Spirit to be with us is about seeking a deeper connection with God, surrendering to His will, and allowing Him to work through us to accomplish His purposes. It’s like asking for God’s GPS to guide you through life’s journey!
Additional Scripture:
- John 14:26 (NIV): “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
- Romans 8:26-27 (NIV): “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with God’s will.”
- Galatians 5:16 (NIV): “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Practical Application for H4J Community:
- Begin Each Day with Prayer: Start each day by inviting the Holy Spirit to guide and empower you in all that you do. Ask for His wisdom, discernment, and strength to live according to God’s will.
Story: Every morning, before starting her busy day, Susan spends time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to guide her interactions and decisions. She finds that this practice helps her approach challenges with a sense of peace and clarity.
- Seek Stillness and Listen: Take moments throughout the day to seek stillness and listen for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Practice being present and attentive to His promptings, allowing Him to direct your thoughts and actions.
Story: During a stressful workday, John felt overwhelmed and unsure of how to proceed. He took a few minutes to step away from his desk, quiet his mind, and listen for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. In that moment of stillness, he received a clear sense of direction that helped him resolve the issue effectively.
- Study Scripture: Immerse yourself in the study of Scripture, allowing the Holy Spirit to illuminate God’s Word and reveal its relevance to your life. Ask for understanding and insight as you read and meditate on the Bible.
Story: Emily struggled with feelings of anxiety and fear. She began to immerse herself in the study of Scripture, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s promises of peace and protection. As she meditated on these verses, she experienced a growing sense of trust and confidence in God’s presence.
- Fellowship with Believers: Engage in fellowship with other believers, sharing your experiences and seeking encouragement from one another. The Holy Spirit often speaks through the wisdom and support of fellow Christians.
Story: David felt discouraged and isolated in his faith journey. He started attending a small group at H4J, where he found encouragement and support from fellow believers. Through their shared experiences and insights, he gained a renewed sense of purpose and connection to God.
- Serve with Humility: Approach every opportunity to serve with humility, recognizing that it is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to make a difference. Surrender your own agenda and allow Him to work through you to bless others.
Story: Maria volunteered to lead a community outreach project, but she felt inadequate and unsure of her abilities. She approached the task with humility, asking the Holy Spirit to empower her to serve with love and compassion. As she surrendered her own agenda, she witnessed God working through her to bless the lives of others in unexpected ways.
This devotional reading encourages us to pray for the Holy Spirit to be with us, guiding and empowering us in all that we do, inspired by Paul’s blessing in Philemon 1:25. By beginning each day with prayer, seeking stillness and listening, studying Scripture, fellowshipping with believers, and serving with humility, we can cultivate a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to transform our lives and ministries. It’s about living a life fully surrendered to the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit!
