Today, we continue our 47-day journey inspired by Paul’s letter to Philemon, seeking to deepen our relationship with God and strengthen our community.
Theme: Expecting Good Things (Philemon 1:21-22)
Today’s focus is on maintaining a positive outlook and anticipating God’s blessings in our lives. This aligns with our fundamental beliefs:
- Hope: We have hope in God’s promises and expect good things to come.
- Faith: Our faith allows us to trust in God’s plan, even when we don’t see the outcome.
- Positive Mindset: We choose to focus on the positive aspects of life, knowing that God is working for our good.

DAY 16: Expecting Good Things: Maintaining a Positive Outlook and Anticipating God’s Blessings in Our Lives
Theme: Anticipating Blessings
Scripture: Philemon 1:21-22 (NIV) – “Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers.”
Reflection:
Paul expresses his confidence in Philemon and anticipates being restored to him, highlighting the importance of maintaining a positive outlook and expecting God’s blessings in our lives. This calls us to cultivate an attitude of hope and trust, believing that God is working all things together for our good. Paul’s message is uplifting: “Maintain a positive outlook, for God is preparing blessings beyond what we can imagine!”

- Belief 26: The New Earth – Our belief in a new earth filled with righteousness encourages us to anticipate good things.
Practical Application for H4J Community:
- Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude: Begin each day by thanking God for His blessings and expressing gratitude for the good things in your life. This will help you to maintain a positive outlook and to appreciate the present moment.
Story: Sister Maria started a gratitude journal, writing down three things she was thankful for each day. This helped her to focus on the positive aspects of her life and to cultivate a greater sense of joy and contentment.
- Focus on the Positive: Make a conscious effort to focus on the positive aspects of every situation, even when things are difficult. Look for the good in others, celebrate small victories, and dwell on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.
Story: Brother David faced a setback in his career. Instead of dwelling on his disappointment, he chose to focus on the lessons he had learned and the opportunities that lay ahead.
- Speak Words of Faith and Hope: Use your words to speak faith and hope into the lives of others. Encourage them, uplift them, and remind them of God’s promises.
Story: Sister Emily made it a practice to offer words of encouragement to those who were struggling. She reminded them of their strengths, talents, and value in God’s eyes.
- Visualize God’s Blessings: Take time to visualize God’s blessings in your life. Imagine Him pouring out His love, grace, and provision upon you.
Story: Brother John spent time each day visualizing God’s blessings in his life. He imagined himself surrounded by love, peace, and joy. This helped him to cultivate a greater sense of hope and confidence.
- Pray Expectantly: Pray with expectation, believing that God will answer your prayers and fulfill His promises. Trust that He is working all things together for your good.
Story: Homes for Jesus created a prayer chain where members could submit their prayer requests and receive support from others. This helped to foster a culture of faith and expectation within the church.
This devotional reading encourages us to maintain a positive outlook and anticipate God’s blessings in our lives. By cultivating gratitude, focusing on the positive, speaking words of faith, visualizing God’s blessings, and praying expectantly, we can experience the joy and fulfillment that come from trusting in His goodness.
