THE LAST 40 DAYS OF 2025
SEASON OF PRAYER AND THANKSGIVING
Day 20: Refreshment Through Mutual Ministry
Greetings, Beloved Family!
Welcome to Day 20 of our journey of prayer and thanksgiving. Today, we focus on how our service to others can become a source of spiritual refreshment for both the giver and the receiver.
Theme: Mutual Edification in Ministry
Key Scripture: Philemon 1:7 (NIV)
“Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.”
Reflection
Paul celebrates Philemon’s ministry not just for blessing others, but for bringing joy and refreshment to Paul himself. This reminds us that true service is not one-sided — when we pour out love to others, we are also filled up. As we walk these final 40 days, let’s ask: How is my service creating mutual encouragement in my community? May we live out Paul’s unspoken invitation: “Let your ministry be a wellspring of refreshment, lifting up both those you serve and your own soul.”
Additional Scripture References
- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV): “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
- Galatians 6:9 (NIV): “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
- Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV): “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Aligning with Core Beliefs
- Belief 12: The Church – Ministry within the body of Christ is designed to foster mutual encouragement and spiritual growth.
- Belief 20: Christian Behavior – Serving others with love and compassion is the very essence of living out our faith.
Practical Application
-
Examine Your Motives: Take 5 minutes in prayer to ask: “Am I serving out of love for God and others, or out of obligation?”
Example: Sister Maria realized her service felt empty until she shifted from duty to desire — her joy returned, and her impact grew.
-
Seek God’s Guidance for Service: Pray daily for clarity on where to serve.
Example: Brother David prayed for direction and was led to a local soup kitchen, where he found deep connection with people he’d never otherwise met.
-
Serve with Joy: Let your attitude shine through. A smile or encouraging word can be as powerful as the task itself.
Example: Sister Emily’s contagious joy inspired dozens of others to join her in ministry, multiplying the impact of their work.
-
Lift Up Fellow Servants: Reach out to someone serving alongside you this week with a note of thanks or a listening ear.
Example: A local ministry hosted a volunteer appreciation meal, reminding workers they were seen and valued — renewing their passion for service.
- Reflect on Impact: At the end of each day, journal one way your service refreshed you and one way it blessed someone else.
May this day fill your heart with gratitude for the privilege of serving, and may your ministry be a source of refreshment for all whose lives you touch. Let us continue to pray without ceasing, thanking God for the mutual joy found in loving others.
