Day 19 Devotional Reading

DEVOTIONAL READING: DAY 19

Theme: Intentional Intercession

Key Text (Philemon 1:4, NIV): “I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers…”

Reflection

Paul’s deliberate practice of praying for Philemon reminds us that intercession is not just a casual thought—it’s a conscious choice to lift others before God. As we journey together, we’re called to be intentional in remembering our H4J and DCN300 community members in prayer, letting their needs and concerns shape our conversations with God.

Additional Scriptures

  • James 5:16 (NIV): “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
  • Ephesians 6:18 (NIV): “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV): “Pray continually.”

Practical Application

  1. Create a prayer list/journal: Like Sister Maria, write down names and specific needs to stay focused.
  2. Set aside dedicated time: Follow Brother David’s example by choosing a daily window for intentional prayer.
  3. Pray spontaneously: Pause to pray in the moment—like Sister Emily did when hearing about a disaster.
  4. Join a prayer group: Participate in initiatives like H4J’s prayer chain to support and be supported by others.
  5. Follow up: Check in on those you pray for, as Brother John did, to offer encouragement and see God’s work unfold.

This practice aligns with our beliefs in the power of prayer and the importance of strengthening the church community. May we commit to prayerfully remembering others, reflecting God’s love and bringing glory to Him in all we do.
