Welcome to Day 3 of Transformation!
Greetings, beloved family of H4J and DCN300!
Today, we continue our 47-day journey inspired by Paul’s letter to Philemon, seeking to deepen our relationship with God and strengthen our community.
Theme: Joy in Fellowship (Philemon 1:6-7)
Today’s focus is on experiencing joy and encouragement through fellowship with other believers. This aligns with our fundamental beliefs:
- Fellowship: We are called to gather together, support one another, and share in the joy of community.
- Encouragement: We should seek to uplift and encourage our fellow believers through our words and actions.
- Gratitude: Recognizing the joy that comes from fellowship helps us to be grateful for the blessings of community.
Practical Application:
- Take time to connect with fellow believers and share in fellowship.
- Offer words of encouragement and support to those around you.
- Reflect on the joy that comes from being part of a community of faith.
Let us continue this journey with hearts open to experiencing the joy and encouragement that comes from fellowship. May we be strengthened and uplifted as we share in community with one another.
Welcome, and may this be a day filled with joy in fellowship!
Devotional Reading
DAY 3: Joy in Fellowship: Experiencing Joy and Encouragement Through Fellowship with Other Believers
Theme: Joy in Fellowship
Scripture: Philemon 1:6-7 (NIV) – “I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.”
Reflection:
Paul highlights the joy and encouragement that come from fellowship and partnership in faith. He acknowledges that Philemon’s love has refreshed the hearts of many. This emphasizes the importance of actively participating in fellowship with other believers, as it deepens our understanding of the shared blessings we have in Christ and brings joy to both ourselves and others. Paul’s sentiment is, “Philemon, your fellowship brings joy and refreshment to all!”
Additional Scripture:
- Acts 2:42 (NIV): “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
- 1 John 1:3 (NIV): “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.”
- Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV): “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Connecting with the 28 Fundamental Beliefs:
Our focus on joy in fellowship aligns strongly with several of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs. Specifically:
- Belief 12: The Church – Fellowship is a vital aspect of the church, providing a community of support, encouragement, and shared faith.
- Belief 14: Unity in the Body of Christ – Joyful fellowship strengthens the bonds of unity among believers, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
- Belief 20: Christian Behavior – Participating in fellowship reflects Christian behavior by demonstrating love, support, and encouragement to others.
Practical Application for H4J Community:
- Prioritize Fellowship Opportunities: Make a conscious effort to prioritize opportunities for fellowship within the Homes for Jesus community. Attend small group meetings, church events, and social gatherings to connect with fellow believers.
Story: Sister Emily, a busy mother of three, made it a priority to attend the weekly women’s Bible study at Homes for Jesus. She found that the fellowship and support she received from the other women helped her to stay grounded in her faith and find joy amidst the challenges of daily life.
- Actively Engage in Fellowship: When you participate in fellowship, actively engage with others. Share your thoughts, listen to their stories, and offer encouragement and support. Be present and attentive, showing genuine interest in the lives of your fellow believers.
Story: During a Homes for Jesus potluck, Brother David made an effort to sit with someone he didn’t know well. He asked about their family, their work, and their faith journey. He listened attentively and offered words of encouragement. By the end of the evening, he had made a new friend and experienced the joy of genuine connection.
- Create Opportunities for Fellowship: Take initiative to create opportunities for fellowship within the H4J community. Organize a game night, plan a picnic, or host a small group meeting in your home. Be creative and intentional in fostering connections among fellow believers.
Story: A group of young adults from Homes for Jesus organized a monthly hiking trip for members of the church. The outdoor setting provided a relaxed and informal atmosphere for fellowship, allowing people to connect with one another while enjoying God’s creation.
- Pray for Deeper Connections: Ask God to deepen your connections with fellow believers and to foster a spirit of unity and love within the H4J community. Pray that your fellowship will be a source of joy, encouragement, and spiritual growth for all involved.
Story: Sister Maria began each day by praying for deeper connections with her fellow church members. She asked God to help her be more open, compassionate, and supportive. Over time, she noticed that her relationships with others became more meaningful and fulfilling.
- Extend Fellowship Beyond Sabbath Services: Look for ways to extend fellowship beyond Sabbath services. Invite someone to lunch, offer to help with a task, or simply send a text message to let them know you are thinking of them. Small acts of kindness can go a long way in building strong relationships.
Story: Brother John noticed that a new member of the church seemed lonely and isolated. He invited him to join him for a healthy juice break after the Sabbath service and offered to introduce him to other members of the community in a potluck meal gathering in the church’s social hall. This simple act of fellowship helped the new member feel welcomed and connected.
This devotional reading encourages us to prioritize, actively engage in, and create opportunities for joyful fellowship within our community. By praying for deeper connections and extending fellowship beyond formal gatherings, we can experience the joy and encouragement that come from sharing our faith with others. Let’s commit to being like Philemon, whose fellowship brings joy and refreshment to all!
