Welcome to Day 7 of Transformation!
Greetings, beloved family of H4J and DCN300!
Today, we continue our 47-day journey inspired by Paul’s letter to Philemon, seeking to deepen our relationship with God and strengthen our community.
Theme: A Plea for Onesimus (Philemon 1:10-11)
Today’s focus is on interceding for those who need restoration and a new beginning. This aligns with our fundamental beliefs:
- Grace: We extend grace to others, recognizing their need for restoration and a fresh start.
- Forgiveness: We offer forgiveness to those who have wronged us, creating space for healing and reconciliation.
- Intercession: We lift up those in need of restoration in prayer, believing in God’s power to transform lives.
Practical Application:
- Reflect on individuals you know who may be in need of restoration or a new beginning.
- Commit to praying for them, asking God to bring healing, restoration, and hope.
- Consider ways you can practically support and encourage those seeking a fresh start.
Let us continue this journey with hearts open to extending grace and offering intercession for those in need. May we be instruments of God’s love and restoration, bringing hope and healing to those around us.
Welcome, and may this be a day of pleading for restoration!
Devotional Reading
DAY 7: A Plea for Onesimus: Interceding for Those Who Need Restoration and a New Beginning
Theme: Intercession for Restoration
Scripture: Philemon 1:10-11 (NIV) – “I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.”
Reflection:
Paul’s plea for Onesimus highlights the transformative power of Christ and the importance of interceding for those who need restoration and a new beginning. Onesimus, once considered “useless,” is now seen as valuable due to his conversion. This calls us to pray for those who are lost, broken, or struggling, believing that God can redeem their lives. Paul’s message resonates: “Let us intercede for those needing a fresh start, trusting in Christ’s power to transform!”
Additional Scripture:
- Galatians 6:1 (NIV): “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.”
- James 5:19-20 (NIV): “My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”
- Luke 15:7 (NIV): “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
Connecting with the 28 Fundamental Beliefs:
Our focus on intercession for restoration aligns with several of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs. Specifically:
- Belief 10: The Experience of Salvation – Interceding for others to experience salvation and restoration is a direct application of this belief.
- Belief 11: Growing in Christ – Supporting the restoration of others is an act of love and helps them grow in Christ.
- Belief 12: The Church – The church is called to be a place of restoration and healing, where individuals can find forgiveness and a new beginning.
Practical Application for H4J Community:
- Identify Individuals Needing Restoration: Take time to identify individuals within your sphere of influence who may be in need of restoration. This could include those struggling with addiction, broken relationships, or spiritual doubt.
Story: Sister Anna knew a young man in her neighborhood who was struggling with drug addiction. She began to pray for him regularly, asking God to intervene in his life and bring him healing and restoration. She also looked for opportunities to offer him support and encouragement.
- Pray Specifically for Their Needs: Pray specifically for the needs of those you have identified. Ask God to break the chains of bondage, heal their wounds, and lead them to a place of wholeness and freedom.
Story: Brother David learned that a member of his church had been unfaithful to his wife. He began to pray for the couple, asking God to restore their marriage and heal the hurt and betrayal. He also offered to provide them with counseling and support.
- Offer Practical Support: Look for ways to offer practical support to those who are seeking restoration. This could include providing financial assistance, offering transportation, or simply lending a listening ear.
Story: A group of women from Homes for Jesus organized a support group for women who had experienced domestic violence. They provided a safe and supportive environment where women could share their stories, receive encouragement, and find healing.
- Share the Gospel: Share the Gospel with those who are seeking restoration. Remind them of God’s love, forgiveness, and power to transform their lives.
Story: Sister Maria had a friend who had been struggling with depression for many years. She shared her own testimony of how God had brought her out of darkness and into light. Her friend was encouraged by her story and began to explore her own faith.
- Be Patient and Persistent: Remember that restoration is often a long and difficult process. Be patient and persistent in your prayers and efforts to support those who are seeking healing and wholeness.
Story: Brother John had been praying for his estranged son for many years. He never gave up hope that God would restore their relationship. One day, his son called him and asked for forgiveness. They were reconciled and began to rebuild their relationship.
This devotional reading encourages us to intercede for those who need restoration and a new beginning. By identifying individuals in need, praying specifically for their needs, offering practical support, sharing the Gospel, and being patient and persistent, we can be instruments of God’s healing and transforming power. Let’s commit to being like Paul, pleading for those who need a fresh start!
